Somebody Else’s War.

It is NATO that has moved towards Russia. What will the next move be?

Preamble.

Today we have learnt that Polish forces are massing on its border with Belarus, the Ukrainian Nation Guard (along with extremists which this unit includes) are doing the same whilst according to its Ministry of Defense, Estonian forces are preparing to deploy up to five thousand of their seven thousand full time personnel to the NATO Rapid Reaction Force. Dutch forces are also said to be readying themselves, at the same time as the Swedes (who are not de jure in NATO) are gearing up for a potential conflict. This begs some very pressing questions at a time of very high tension between the East and West.

A Welcome Outsider.

The whole crux of the matter is the Ukraine. Whilst neither a member state of NATO or the European Union, both organizations have done their level best over the last eight years to use this country as a political and military football whilst calling foul on Russia every step of the way. Remembering the war that brought a nation to its knees was caused by the same Washington that said ‘Fuck the EU’ is a matter that has been covered on innumerable previous occasions yet it has gone largely unnoticed by the public. The fact that one outfit knows that the other couldn’t give a damn about it has however been nicely concealed by all concerned. Moreover, Brussels has already borne the brunt of the sanctions it has levied against Russia, yet the fact that it follows the White House narrative every step of the way indicates that Brussels is merely an extension of Washington. The Ukraine is in a real mess, but the US is using the situation to play an ever bigger role in European ‘security’, whilst the EU is increasingly willing to see its homeland destroyed to fight someone else’s war.

Offensive Defense.

Another fact that seems to have gone under the radar is the fact that NATO claims to be a defensive alliance. Notwithstanding marauding around the globe for the last two decades, the fact that its member states have interfered as they have is one thing, yet should members in the Ukraine who are not on NATO business be attacked, that then gives the alliance justification to hit back. According to NATO’s website,

‘NATO is committed to the principle that an attack against one or several of its members is considered as an attack against all. This is the principle of collective defense, which is enshrined in Article 5 of the Washington Treaty.’

This however translates into individual member states doing as they wish to who they wish, yet should they get caught out, all states then gang up on the relevant party. If one member state were to offend Russia, would that give Moscow grounds to hit another in retribution? That’s not something that anyone has yet asked, but should push come to shove, some difficult answers may need to be found.

Fight or Flight.

Whilst European armies are preparing to go to war, the US and UK have said they do not wish to commit combat assets to Ukrainian territory. Should they do so, they know a drubbing awaits them, this not only being testament to Russian superiority in the region, but a very good barometer of western hopes if it does go hot. In spite of the two NATO ringleaders (US and UK) not wanting to commit, others seem to relish the prospect of their countries being turned into the same bullet-ridden wastelands that the Donbass frontline has become since 2014. Washington has gone to great pains to ensure that member states spend at least 2% of their GDP on ‘defense’ (read US weapons) over recent years, yet when the Bear threatens to leave his cave, London and Washington hightail away.

Partisan Policy.

Washington has said that if Russia does make a move, it will use bases in neighboring member states to undertake the training and equipment of partisan forces to be used behind Russian lines. News stories have come to light over recent days that a number of Ukrainians have already undergone these courses stateside, but this presents implications not only for the US and its wannabe guerrillas, but also the states hosting these activities.

Russia is going to take a very dim view of any country that is willing to allow this kind of thing happening in their territory, and if Russia and NATO are at war, it’s not inconceivable that Russian special forces might try playing the same game. Furthermore, is the general public going to want to be in Moscow’s crosshairs due to it being home to Washington’s forces after they’ve run away from the fight? The fact that in the face of a Russian foe of its own making the ‘greatest nation on earth’ has to resort to Viet Cong tactics says a lot about is current position in global affairs, yet Eastern Europe is a far cry from the jungles of the Mekong. Russia (and possibly China) could make life very difficult should they wish to do so, and different cultures in a completely different age will not bear the hardships that the Vietnamese did fifty years ago.

Absent from Action.

For all the shenanigans behind the lines, we have to look at the possibility of real combat. The elephant in the room is most certainly going to be that the elephant has decided to leave that room, its useful and somewhat useless allies facing off against a very determined adversary that’s on the warpath. Cyberspace has been awash with chest-thumping stories by individuals in Europe claiming that they’ll fight tooth and nail against Moscow, yet what they just don’t understand is that they are going to be fighting a European war in Europe against Europeans that was started by one of the few nations in their alliance that is not in Europe. Worse still, the nation that started this fire has run away from the flames, hot air being all it has to offer. Quite why so many belligerents want to fight the White House’s war to the last of their men defies all logic, yet should the flames of war start to affect their civilian populations adversely, the American Dream of a newly destroyed Europe might get a very rude wake-up indeed.

A Hot War with Cold Feet.

With so many useful idiots waving the Stars and Stripes, one could be forgiven for thinking that Uncle Sam was the European salvation of today. One only has to look at the reticence of both Washington and Brussels to sanction Russia to know that Moscow plays a much bigger part in European affairs than most hive it credit for. Much has been said regarding the Ukraine being a transit country for Russian gas, yet were it not for the energy that it supplies, the western world would be a very different place. That this situation revolves around a transit country at the same time that Washington has played every trick it can to stymie Nord Stream 2 has not been overlooked, yet if this war does start, Europe more than anywhere is going to learn how cold a hot war can be.

We then come onto the subject of past performances. With NATO getting its butt handed to it on a plate in Afghanistan against men with sandals and Kalashnikovs, how is it going to fare against Russia? A very technically-minded country with a very cohesive leadership is going to be a much more difficult proposition that the twenty-year jaunt in Asia. Furthermore, the Afghanistanis had no tactical missiles or submarine fleet to call upon. The western world has only rampaged unchecked due to its adversaries being unable to strike their homelands, the start the of this war may mean the end of everything as they know it.

Summary.

As a plethora of European nations queue up to fight an American war, which this video claims may be very close indeed, many are shaking their heads. The circumstances that have brought us to where we are are laughable, yet the consequences will be no laughing matter. The US has since 1945 occupied Europe as a cuckoo sits in a nest, everyone knowing that it has no place there whilst knowing their place as its subordinate. Notwithstanding, they gladly surrendered their sovereignty, eventually being little more than a foreign legion, European life becoming centered around the death they wrought on Washington’s behalf. That the cuckoo has flown the nest appears to be of little consequence, its subordinates continuing to serve its needs in any and every way they can. Both in Afghanistan and Vietnam, the American military machine was unable to defeat men in sandals; is the White House going to fight a possible war in Europe by giving idiots Ho Chi Minh sandals?
